The Ultimate Bali Travel Guide for New Travelers

In this post, I will share my ultimate Bali travel guide and some things I learned through the process. Man, did I learn a lot… Here is my 7-day Bali itinerary.

To start off Bali is amazing!!! I know some may say it’s over-rated and is becoming “too-touristy”. Yes, Bali is a bit insane, but in specific areas. Depending on the type of trip you’re looking for, I still find Bali beautiful and 100% can say it is still a tropical paradise. Here is the ultimate 7-day Bali Travel Guide!

Getting through the airport!

Bali airport like many touristy places is full of transportation companies offering rides usually marked up at least 5x the actual price. For me to get to Canggu from the airport I paid 250,000 IDR which is more than I wanted to pay but surrendered the fight as I had just been traveling all day. Normally the price can be between 150,000-200,00 IDR if you are heading to the Kuta or Canggu area.

You won’t find a ride at this price in the airport, so you’ll need to take about a 10-minute stroll through the international arrivals area through the parking lot to the main street. Here you will find the bluebird taxis that will usually run the meter if you ask. Sometimes they will make an excuse about why they can’t use it but it simply just takes saying “fine, I’ll find another taxi” for them to work with you.

Day 1

We got in late the night before with some time to unpack into our amazing Airbnb at the Berawa Lounge and went to grab a late-night bite across the street at Berawa Kitchen. We learned quickly that most places in the area close around 9 pm/10 pm. This is a great place for a quick bite as it is made up of several food stands of different types of food. As it was our first night in Bali, I decided to try the local food stand with a nasi goreng 🙂 Delicious.

The next day is a day to explore Canggu! In the morning I recommend getting up early and renting a motorbike to use for the next two days and purchasing a SIM card to set up your phones. Renting a bike should be no more than about 5-6 USD a day.

I recommend going to Happy Cell in Canggu to set up your phones as they can easily do it and I had no issues at all. The card was already registered and ready to go and most plans were below 10 USD for 2 weeks!

For breakfast, we went to Milk and Madu. It was an amazing first breakfast and a perfect start to the day. From here we explored the area via bike and then headed to Berawa beach.

Next, spend the afternoon at the beach learning how to surf! most places along the beach will have boards for you to rent and lessons to take! To rent a board it was about 100k and a lesson was around 350k.

Balinese currency is about 13,500 IDR = 1 USD

After watching a beautiful Bali sunset we went to dinner at Kynd Community. I had read and seen a lot about this place and for all my fellow vegans, it is plant-based heaven! The food is pretty good and I wish I was able to try the breakfast too! If the food wasn’t good enough the place was so fun, with bright colors and its unique design.

I definitely recommend trying their buffalo cauliflower bites appetizer *drool*

Day 2

This day started with an enormous breakfast from Secret Spot in Canggu. This is another great vegan option in this area of Bali. Here we ordered amazing coffee and so much delicious food!

After a filling breakfast, we headed to Ubud. Our agenda consisted of the Tegalalang Rice Fields, Ubud Monkey Forest, and a few of the nearby waterfalls. Unfortunately, a late wake-up call meant not enough time for a visit to any waterfalls. But all this is definitely possible, a long full day, but possible!

If you have more time in Bali, I would definitely recommend spending at least 2-3 nights in Ubud and hitting all these spots within those days.

The Tegalalang Rice Fields were all that Instagram built it up to be, although I found a spot that many people didn’t seem to know about. I doubt it’s much of a secret, but I found a small entrance on the other side of the rice fields. I could see all the other visitors on the other side of the fields but felt like I had the whole place to myself, which was pretty cool.

It is a long journey back (about 2 hours on the bike), but get ready and head to an amazing dinner at Bottega Italiana! Trust me it will make up for the long ride on the scooter 🙂 They make all of their pasta from scratch, which made amazing homemade pesto gnocchi – yummmm!

Day 3 & Day 4

The next two days will take you to Nusa Penida!

You can read all about that in my Nusa Penida Guide.

Nusa Penida was such a beautiful island and I think two days worked well with an organized tour. This way we were able to hit all the major spots in two days. They were long days, so I would have loved to have taken another day or two to slow down and explore the other two close-by islands, Nusa Lembongan & Nusa Ceningan.

At the end of the 4th day, we headed to South Bali. This was a perfect place to stay after a few nights in the busy Canggu area and long days exploring Nusa Penida.

Day 5

This was a day to explore the southern area of Bali. This area is known for its beautiful beaches and cliff sides! I definitely would have loved an extra day to explore more!

The first stop of the day was at Cuppa Espresso. For an amazing coffee and breakfast.

Then we headed to the cultural center which is home the largest statue in Indonesia, Garuda Wisnu Kencana! It was pretty cool to see although they are still building the area surrounding the statue. There were a few statues and information centers but besides that, there wasn’t too much else to see yet.

There was also an entrance fee to the park for 100,000 IDR (about $7.40 USD).

Day 6

Our day started at Nourish for some breakfast, another great place for vegans and vegetarians!

We then headed to the Uluwatu Temple! This was an amazing sightseeing spot in Uluwatu! There is a small entrance fee of 30,000 IDR, a little over two US dollars. To enter you will need to be dressed appropriately, but no need to worry they will allow you to borrow a sarong if needed.

This was such a fun place to roam around and explore for a bit! We spent about 2 hours walking around and taking pictures. There are 6 hindu temples to see plus all the amazing views off the cliffside.

To finish up the perfect Bali travel guide, for the last evening head for a fun and relaxing night out at Sunday’s Beach Club! This was a fun experience as we got to chill on the beach and have some nice cocktails (acting a little more bougie than our budget).

The wonderful thing about Sundays is that on certain days of the week they offer a deal after 5 pm. Usually, you have to pay an entrance fee into the beach club on top of the items you consume. But this deal allowed our entrance fee to be used as credit so that was all we had to spend. The entrance fee for us was 400,000 IDR per person, which is about $30 USD. Not too bad to watch the sunset from the shore of a nice beach club with a couple of drinks and an appetizer.

On the way home from the beach we stopped for a late-night bite at a local warring next to our Airbnb.

Day 7

After a busy 6 days of non-stop exploring, use the last day to relax at your accommodation while packing up for the next destination. In addition to packing, our accommodation had a beautiful pool which was a great spot to spend a few hours on the last day.

If you have an extra day I definitely recommend relaxing for a bit to enjoy all your surroundings. If you’re like me you are most likely go, go, go during a trip. I love to keep exploring and often forget to stop and enjoy everything by doing absolutely nothing.
