Typical costs for travelling to the Maldives

Accommodation – Maldives travel is usually a luxouris travel location, accomidation can be quick expensive. You have your options from 3 – 5 star resorts that will be worth every penny. On the other hand, you can make this Maldives trip less expensive by staying in guesthouses on local islands! This is a great way to experience the local culture as well as spending time on the magical beachs.

Food – Local cusine is most similar to Sri Lankan and Indian food. Most of the time resorts will offer different for items from around the world to make their guests feel more comfortable.

Transportation – Getting around can be quite difficult in the Maldives, as most is done by boat or sea plane. These can be expensive options but the only way to get to a resort is by sea plane, sometimes a seat on these planes can be anywhere from $100- $600 USD. Boats are cheaper but can be a difficult ride if there are rough seas. The cheapest, yet slowest option is by ferries which can be possible to use in more adventurous holidays.

Suggested daily budget – 100-150 USD (Note: This is a suggested budget assuming you’re staying in a guest house, eating out a little, cooking most of your meals, and using local transportation. Using the budget tips below, you can always lower this number.) Also important to note that resorts in the Maldives can range anywhere from 300 – 20,000 USD a night!

Money-Saving Tips

1
Stay on a Local Island Many local islands have guest houses which are a more affordable resort. You still get to be on a beautiful island and get to experience the local culture.
2
Ferries over Sea Planes Unless you can afford the sea plane ride I would recommend taking a spend boat or ferry when possible.

More Maldives travel tips!

When in the Maldives you can expect heaven on earth! An ultimate dream of perfect beaches and gorgeous remote islands. Honestly, everyday took my breath away, with the perfect blue, crystal water or the soft white sand… It is so beautiful! And that’s just any island you chose! The Mladivs is a country made up of over 1200 islands and that number can differ sue to our ever changing planet, some years islands vanish due to natural causes and some can be created. This means that there are always new resorts, local, or uninhabited islands to be explored!

One piece of advice that I always like to mention is if you make it all the way to this beautiful country make sure to explore a local island! Because there are so many different islands, the local community can vary from island to island but they are all friendly and have a lot to explore!

Thank you for all of the helpful tips for visiting the Maldives! It has always been on my bucketlist, I just never put the effort into doing the research 🙂 Also, what a dream job you have! I wanted to be a marine biologist as a child, until I became and adult and realised how horrible I am at science haha!
