Indonesia travel is like no other. A beautiful paradise made up of over 17,000 islands! From hot international spots like Bali to quiet, local islands islands with perfect beaches and the nicests locals. I fell in love with this country right away and have only scratched its surface. I look forward to going back and exploring more.
This is definitely a place for all travelers. If you’re more advesnterous, there are numerous remote islands to explore. If you like to play it more on the safe side there are some amazing hot spots like Bali and the Gili islands that have everything for all walks of life!
Accommodation – Most accomidation will be affordable, especially if you plan to stay in mostly hostels. Indonesia is a great place to rent beautiful villas at just a fraction of teh cost from western cultures. Majority of the accomidation will either have bamboo styling, an open concept or an outdoor bathroom. So hopefully you are okay with a few bugs crawling around!
Food – As a veggie eater I really enjoyed the local food! My favorites was the Nasi Guoreng and the Gado Gado. The local food is usally very cheap as well. In bali I also enjoyed all the variety of resturants that covered just about every cusine you could think of.
Transportation – My top suggestion to getting around is via scooter bike. Every local and forgiener will be driving one and it makes for a fun adventure! If your not comfortable driving yourself definitely use GoJek and Grab for bike and car services. If all else fails a Bluebird taxi will be the next affordable. These options are mostly for the city but if you are in more remote islands than a scooter may be your only option.
Suggested daily budget – 30-50 USD (Note: This is a suggested budget assuming you’re staying in a low to mid range guest house/hostel, eating local, and using local transportation. Using the budget tips below, you can always lower this number. However, if you stay in fancier accommodation or eat out more often, expect this to be higher!) Going with a budget of about 50 USD will have you living quite nicely in Indonesia.
TIP– Unless you are at a restaurant majority of prices can be bargined with. I learned quickly to not take the first price of anything, especially transportation. Many companies will triple the price for foreigners so I like to bargin and you can always get a better price. On the other hand it is good to remember what you bargaining. If your debating too much, remember that just a few dollars difference to you can make a large difference to someone else.
